Sylvia C. Cady, 89, Sheldon, Mo., passed away on Wednesday, June 6, 2012, at Christian Health Care, Nevada, following a brief illness. She was born April 22, 1923, in Sheldon, to Zeb Ambler and Annie Jobe Ambler. She married Leland E. Cady on Aug. 30, 1943, in Lamar, Mo., and he preceded her in death on Oct. 29, 2011.

Sylvia was raised in the Sheldon area and lived for a time in Kansas City. She attended Sheldon schools and graduated from Sheldon High School. Sylvia and her husband farmed in Kincaid, Kan., from 1965 to 1999. While in Kansas, she worked as a meat inspector for the state of Kansas, then as a U.S. government meat inspector until her retirement in 1986. They returned to Sheldon in 1999, where she had lived ever since. Sylvia was a member of the United Methodist Church of Sheldon and the Jolly Seniors of Sheldon.

Survivors include one son, Thomas Cady, Harrisonville, Mo.; eight grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and 11 nieces and nephews. Sylvia was the last survivor of the12 Ambler children. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by one son, James Cady; one daughter, A.J. Short; and one granddaughter, Jamie.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, June 12, at Ferry Funeral Home, 301 S. Washington, Nevada, with the Rev. Lynn Quist officiating. Interment will follow in Sheldon Cemetery. Friends may call now and until the hour of service at the funeral home.
