M. Maxine Earnest

M. Maxine Earnest, 83, Nevada passed away on Saturday, June 16, 2012, in Springfield, following an illness of several months. She was born Nov., 25, 1928, in Nevada, Mo., to Marshall W. "Ikey" Thompson and Vina Loree Griffith Thompson. She married Leon E. Earnest on Jan. 15, 1948, in Nevada, and he preceded her in death on Aug. 29, 2001.

Maxine was raised in Nevada and graduated from high school in 1946. She was a homemaker and lived nearly all her life in Vernon County. She helped for many years with the family pecan orchard. Maxine enjoyed fishing, reading, dancing, sewing, knitting, and country music.

Survivors include three children, Jime L. Earnest and his wife, Margaret, Nevada, Suzanne K. Norton and her husband, Glennon "Buff", Findlay, Ohio, and Douglas V. Earnest and his wife, Cheri, Branson, Mo.; grandchildren, Todd Earnest and his wife, Stephanie, Greenwood, Mo., and Emily Earnest, Nevada; and great-grandchildren, Zachary L. Earnest, Greenwood, Mo., and Brylynn Leer, Nevada.

In addition to her husband Leon, she was preceded in death by her parents; and one brother, Marine Sgt. Jim Thompson, who was killed in action in Korea in 1950.

A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, June 20, at Newton Burial Park, Nevada, with Doug Reynolds officiating. Friends may call now and until 9:30 a.m., Wednesday, at Ferry Funeral Home, 301 S. Washington, Nevada.
