Tuesday, September 11, 2012

Ruth Wray Price was born Aug. 27, 1915, at 727 W. Austin in Nevada, Mo., to Martha and Paul Wray. She passed on quietly at her Joe Clark Residential Care home Thursday, Sept. 6, 2012. Ruth graduated from Cottey College, attended Missouri University, received her bachelors from University of Missouri-Kansas City, and her master's degree in social work from the University of Kansas. Her career in social work began as secretary to the director of United Jewish Social Services in Kansas City shortly after the end of World War II. In order to serve her European Jewish refugee clients more effectively, she learned to speak Yiddish. She spent more than 10 years as director of social services at the Osawatomie, Kan., state hospital, retiring in 1979 and moving to Las Vegas, Nev., with her husband Richard Price. Ruth returned to Nevada in 1988 after the death of her husband. Ruth lived an active, productive life in the town of her birth. Her bridge and bingo buddies were an important part of that life, even after her move to Joe Clark.

She leaves her daughter, Margo Pennington; son and daughter-in-law, Joe and Mary Englert; grandson, Michael Englert; granddaughters, Robin Sirna and Michelle Adams; nine great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; and one niece, Barbara Wray.

There are no services planned. Arrangements are under the direction of Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada.
