Maxine Agnes Coulter Johnson

Maxine Agnes Coulter Johnson, 100, Nevada, Mo., passed away on Monday, Sept. 17, 2012, at Moore-Few Care Center in Nevada. She was born March 16, 1912, in Kiowa, Kan., to Earl Mack Coulter and Maude Vernon Caldwell Coulter. She married LeRoy Johnson on Sept. 1, 1940, and he preceded her in death in 1955.

Maxine attended schools in Kansas City, Mo., and graduated from Central Senior High in 1929. She worked in Sears' mail order special returns and correspondence along with all employ returns in 1940.

Following their marriage, she and her husband, due to his work, lived in nearly every state in the United States until June 1, 1950. They operated the Farmers Produce until LeRoy's death in 1955. Maxine continued operating the business until 1962. She then worked for and managed Bowman Abstract for several years. Maxine also worked for Curtis and Sons Insurance and Realty Company until 1976.

Maxine worked as an organizer for the Nu Phi Mu (a junior group) of Beta Sigma Phi, also being a member of the Kappa Chapter in Kansas City of Beta Sigma Phi. She served as Worthy Matron of the Nevada Chapter No. 53 Order of the Eastern Star in 1969 and was District Deputy of the 43rd District Order of the Eastern Star in 1976 and 1977. She received her 50-year pin with the Eastern Star in 1999 and was still partially active in the Order. In Nevada, she served as Worthy High Priest of the White Shrine in 1969 and as instructor for two years. She worked for 16 years with the Rainbow Girls.

Maxine had worked since 1988 in the Helping Hands Group of the All Saints Episcopal Church, visiting all members or those unable to attend church as well as members at Moore-Few Nursing Home and for a service group that gave gifts at Easter, Christmas, and other times. Since 1988, Maxine served as Lay Reader, Lay Eucharist Minister and any other duty needed. She received the Bishop's Shield award in 2004 for 46 years of moratorium service presented to her by Bishop Barry Howe.

Memorial services will be held at the All Saints Episcopal Church on Sunday, Sept. 30, at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Ted Estes officiating. Inurnment will follow in the church's column barium.
