Nevada teens hurt in weekend car crashes

One person was injured in Vernon County, in a traffic crash that took place Friday, but no traffic fatalities were reported in Vernon County during the Missouri State Highway Patrol's official counting period, which started Wednesday and ended at midnight, Sunday.

Two other local teens were hurt in a Saturday crash in Cedar County

According to a report from the MSHP, 16-year-old Taylor N. Dockery of Nevada was hurt in a one-vehicle crash that took place at 10:45 p.m., Friday, on 600 Road, 2 miles south of Deerfield, when she lost control of the 2003 Chrysler Sebring she was driving on loose grave. The vehicle traveled off the roadway and struck a tree. Dockery, who was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, suffered moderate injuries and was transported to Nevada Regional Medical Center, Nevada.

Sixteen-year-old Darcy Bond and 14-year-old Hanna Quitno were injured in the Cedar County incident. According to the report, the crash happened at 11:55 p.m., Nov. 24, when Bond, failed to negotiate a curve with the 2000 Chevrolet Blazer she was driving on Missouri Highway 32, 6 miles west of Stockton. The vehicle ran off the roadway, struck a ditch and overturned. Bond, who was not wearing a seat belt, suffered minor injuries and was transported to Nevada Regional Medical Center. Quitno, who was wearing a seatbelt, also suffered moderate injuries and was transported to Nevada Regional Medical Center.

Nevada police also investigated one non-injury traffic crash on Sunday, when an accident occurred in the Wal-Mart parking lot, involving a van driven by Julian E. Norval of El Dorado Springs and an SUV driven by Lynn C. Mosteller of Rolla.

Throughout the state, the patrol said troopers investigated 350 traffic crashes, which included 140 injuries.

The MSHP reported one fatality, which occurred on Wednesday, Nov. 21, in the Troop D, Springfield area. Austin C. Turner, 19, of Golden, Mo., died when the vehicle he was driving ran off the left side of the roadway, struck a tree, and burned. Turner was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash. A passenger in Turner's vehicle sustained minor injuries; he was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash. The crash occurred in Barry County on Route J west of Golden. Barry County Assistant Coroner Charles McManus pronounced Turner dead at the scene.

In addition, troopers arrested 140 people for driving while intoxicated. During the 2011 Thanksgiving holiday, troopers investigated 365 traffic crashes, which included 125 injuries. Statewide, there were four fatalities over the 2011 Thanksgiving weekend. Troopers arrested 126 people for driving while intoxicated in 2011.
