HUME, Mo. -- The hume Lady Hornets recorded their second victory in as many games this season when they took on the Lady Bulldogs of Ballard High School.

Tuesday's game was the Lady Hornets' first conference game of the season. Head coach Delanya Thompson's squad got off to a quick start and never looked back on its way to a 71-17 victory.

"We worked hard the whole game," Thompson said. "(But it was) Not as smooth as I would like."

The Lady Hornets wasted little time distancing themselves from the competition as they opened the game with a 22-8 lead after a quarter. The offense slowed down every quarter from then on, but Ballard was simply no match for the Lady Hornets and ultimately still got outscored in each of the game's four periods.

For the second straight game, everyone on the Lady Hornets' roster contributed offensively and three players broke into double figures for the Lady Hornets. Each of those three players finished with a double-double.

Tori Sears had 21 points and a team-high 12 rebounds for her second double-double of the year, while Megan Sutcliffe had 11 points and 11 rebounds.

"(It was a) good game with everyone scoring again on offense," Thompson said.

The Lady Hornets' leading scorer on the night, Emily Brooks, not only finished with her second double-double in as many games, but also accomplished one of the most significant feats to which a high school basketball player can lay claim when she eclipsed the 1,000-point mark. Brooks finished Tuesday's contest with team highs in points with 26 and assists with 11.

As a team, the Lady Hornets hauled in 28 steals and committed 15 turnovers of their own.

With the win, the Lady Hornets improved to 2-0 on the year and are scheduled to be back in action on Friday, when they visit Sheldon for a varsity girls and boys doubleheader.
