James Raymond Giessel, 64, Nevada, passed away on Monday, Jan. 1, 2013, at his home in Nevada, following a brief illness. He was born April 1, 1948, in Great Bend, Kan., to Leo L. Giessel and Wilhelmina B. Strecker Giessel. He married Deanna L. Myers on July 17, 1970, in Dallas, Texas, and she survives of the home.

Jim was raised in Ness City, Kan., and graduated from Ness City High School in 1966. He later graduated from St. Benedick's College in 1970. Jim came to Nevada in 1982. He began working at 3M Company when he was 18 years old until his retirement in 2009. Jim was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus of St. Mary's. He was an avid trout fisherman and outdoorsman.

Survivors in addition to his wife, Deanna, include four daughters, Stephanie Purvis and her husband, Troy, Blue Springs, Mo., Jennifer Branch and her husband, Troy, Lee's Summit, Mo., Julie Heathman and her husband, Joe, Nevada, and Rebecca Adams and her husband, Ryan, Springfield, Mo.; 10 grandchildren, Natalie, Andrew, Madeline, Alexandra, Tylin, Abbey, Ivy, Ella, Sydney, and Morgan; four sisters, Marlene Risley and her husband, Jon, Dighton, Kan., Marietta Wendler, Shawnee, Kan., Carol Bain and her husband, Craig, Ness City, Kan., and Donna Goetz and her husband, Ron, Hoisington, Kan.; two sisters-in-law, Frances Lehane, Oak Grove, Mo., and Mary O'Neill and her husband, Jim, Blue Springs, Mo.; two brothers-in-law, Laurence Harkness, Dayton, Ohio, and Martin Myers and his wife, Bonnie, Warrensburg, Mo.; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Lester; two brothers-in-law, Alan Wendler and Mike Lehane; one sister-in-law, Karen Harkness; and his mother-in-law.

Mass of christian burial will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 5, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Nevada, with Terry Baum officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Nevada. The family will receive friends at 6 p.m., Friday, Jan. 4, at St. Mary's Catholic Church with rosary following at 7:30 p.m.
