Disciples Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), of Nevada is pleased to announce that Pastor Darren McColm has accepted their call to ministry and will be installed as resident pastor at 3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 27th, at the church at 125 N. Prewitt St.
Pastor McColm and his wife DeAnna and his daughter Mady are members of the First Christian Church of Fort Scott, Kan. In his many years of fellowship and service to the church there, he served as an elder, deacon, board moderator and Sunday school teacher as well as a member of the Pastoral Relations Committee. When the need arose, he also served on the Pulpit Supply for the church membership.
In the greater Fort Scott community, Darren volunteered as a board member for the annual Gordon Parks Celebration, supported the Fort Scott Hurricanes Youth Swim Team and was in the pastoral rotation for the Nursing Home Service.
He was reared on a farm outside Pittsburg, Kan., and attended classes at Labette Community College and Pittsburg State University. He earned a four-year certificate through the Education for Ministry Program in 2006 and will receive his associate's degree from Fort Scott Community College this spring.
A church spokeswoman said Pastor McColm "is known for his great sense of humor, patience and dedication towards service to others."
His placement as pastorate will be his first call to ministry. His installation Sunday will be officiated by The Rev. Dr. Mike Weinman, an Ozark Lakes area ordained minister of the Christian Church. Church supporters, community leaders and members of the public are invited to attend.
As pastor of Disciples Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), McColm will represent the church in the Vernon County Ministerial Alliance as well as various other community organizations and events.
