Carol J. Steward

Carol J. Steward, 82, Nevada, Mo., passed away on Friday, Aug. 9, 2013, at University Hospital, Columbia, Mo., following a brief illness. She was born Dec. 28, 1930, to Frank French and Cora B. Pulley French. She married Clifford D. "Dan" Steward Jr. on Nov. 2, 1950, in Nevada, and he preceded her in death in 1985.

Carol was raised in Vernon County. She worked for Key Work Clothes and Nelly Don in Nevada for many years. Carol loved quilting, painting, being with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandsons. She was a longtime member of Pine Street Baptist Church and also attended Heritage Baptist Church in Nevada.

Survivors include one son, Ron Steward and his wife Kristen, Springfield, Mo.; three grandchildren, Mark Steward, Nevada, Matthew Steward, Raymore, Mo., and Megan Swenson and her husband Ben, Nevada; two great-grandsons, Clayton and Allen Swenson; one sister, Frankie Brown and her husband, Les, Pratt, Kan.; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; one son, Stephen in 1986; and one sister, Colleen Cassel.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Monday, Aug. 12, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada. Friends may call now until the hour of service and the family will receive friends from 2-3 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 11, at the funeral home.
