Lee R. Mahan

Lee R. Mahan, 76, Nevada, died Sept. 20, 2004, at Freeman Hospital in Joplin. He was born on April 22, 1928, in Henderson, Iowa, to Leonard Alvin and Bertha E. Dobbs Mahan.

He was a veteran of World War II. He was a self-employed contractor, and he retired in 1992. He spent most of his professional career in Stockton.

He is survived by three sons, Robert "Bobby" Mahan and his wife, Nadine, Nevada, Jerry McBride and Michael Tiry, both of the state of Kansas; one daughter, Clarissa Lichliter, of the state of Arizona; three brothers, Orville Mahan, Kidder, Mo., Leonard Mahan and James Allen, both of the state of Texas; two sisters, Margie Jordan and Ruby LaRoque, both of the state of Texas; one step-mother, Frances Mahan, of the state of Texas; and two grandchildren, Tasha Mahan, El Dorado Springs, and Robert Mahan, of the home.

Graveside services will be held on Thursday, Sept. 23, 2004, at 10 a.m., at the Fort Scott National Cemetery with the Rev. Tom Haynes officiating. Friends may call at Evergreen Memorial Chapel. Deaths

John A. Pilcher

John A. Pilcher, 54, Nevada, died Tuesday, Sept. 21, 2004, at Nevada Regional Medical Center, Nevada, following a sudden illness. He was born July 29, 1950, in Nevada, to Lloyd Elmer Pilcher and Anna Mae Austin Pilcher. He married Rose Mary Neely on Jan. 30, 1971, in Nevada, and she survives of the home.

He grew up and attended Nevada schools. He was a lifelong resident of Vernon County. He worked as a mechanic his entire working life. He also volunteered as a firefighter for Nevada Fire Department for 15 years.

Survivors in addition to his wife, Rose, include four sons, John Pilcher Jr. and James Pilcher, both of Nevada, Shawn Pilcher, of the home, and Dallas Pilcher, Boonville Mo.; one daughter, Charlotte Evans, Joplin; three brothers, Lloyd Pilcher Jr. and Tom Pilcher, both of Nevada, and Harold Pilcher, Elgin, Okla.; one-half sister, Sara Fay, Pittsburg, Kan.; nine grandchildren; also several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Harold Eugene Pilcher.

Graveside services will be held at 3 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 24, 2004, at Milo Cemetery, Milo. The family receives friends from 5-6 p.m. Thursday at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada.
