Johnnie James Fritter, 85, Richards, Mo., died Saturday, Dec. 4, 2004, at Mercy Health Center. He was born May 10, 1919, in Fort Scott, Kan., the son of John Franklin Fritter and Bulah Severy Fritter. He married Helen Irene Beal on Dec. 2, 1945, at the First Church of God in Fort Scott.

He was a farmer and owned a dump truck business. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving from October 1941 through November 1945. He was stationed in Hawaii and Saipan. He was a member of the Mirza Shrine of Pittsburg, Kan., and the Blue Lodge Masons in Richards. He had served on the Richards Township Board.

Survivors include his wife, Helen Irene Fritter, of the home; two sons, Jim Fritter, Nevada, and Jack Fritter, Richards; sister, Marzetta Parish, Hayward, Calif.; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, John William Fritter; two brothers, Lewis Fritter and Clayton Fritter; and an infant sister.

The Rev. Bill Smith conducted funeral services at 2 p.m., on Tuesday, Dec. 7, at Cheney Witt Memorial Chapel. Burial followed in Memory Garden Cemetery. Military honors were conducted by the Olson-Frary-Burkhart Post No. 1165 V.F.W. Memorials are suggested to the Mirza Shrine Transportation Fund and may be sent to Cheney Witt Memorial Chapel, 201 S.
