Alvin Daniel Hawes

Alvin Daniel Hawes, 77, Nevada, died Saturday, Jan. 1, 2005, at his home in Nevada, following a lengthy illness. He was born April 27, 1927, in Cement, Okla., to Chester Alvin Hawes and Mancy Irene Knight Hawes. He was the oldest son of 14 children. He married Florence Elveta Roberts on April 17, 1945, and she survives of the home.

He joined the U.S. Army in June 1945, during World War II, where he broke horses. He entered the ministry in 1949 and pastored many churches in California, Indiana, Missouri, Kansas and held many revivals all over the United States. In 1969, the family moved to Lamar, where they started a dairy farm and pastored at Bethel Methodist for 3.5 years. In 1979, they moved to Nevada. In 1980, he began the plan to build the church in Nevada with the money they made from selling the farm. He was a member of the Pentecostal Church of God Conference. He was the pastor at Nevada Pentecostal Assembly from 1980 to September 2001.

Survivors in addition to his wife, Elveta, include four children, Paula Satkin, Fredricksburg, Va., Tricia Brandt, Nevada, Jackie Hawes, Grove, Okla., and Boyce Hawes, Lamar; six grandsons; four granddaughters and 10 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, three brothers, and one grandson.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 5, at the Pentecostal Assembly, Nevada, with the Rev. J.0. Howard officiating. Interment will follow in Newton Burial Park, Nevada. The family receives friends 7-8 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 4, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada. Friends may call now and until noon on Wednesday at the funeral home.
