Carl Everett Tourtillott

Carl Everett Tourtillott, 79, Rich Hill, died Dec. 24, 2004, following a brief illness. He was born on Dec. 10, 1925, the son of Denver and Willa P. Tourtillott. He married Madelyn Jean Ayer on Sept. 14, 1944.

He was a World War II veteran and spent his life in the farming and cattle business. He was part owner of the Rich Hill Sale Company for many years and served as the Bates County Southern Commissioner for a number of years.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Elroy and Ralph; one sister, Peggy Ann Westerhold; and one granddaughter, Stacy Tourtillott. He is survived by his wife, Madelyn; six children, Lyle Tourtillott, Rich Hill, Gary Tourtillott, Sheldon, Ed Tourtillott, Nevada, Kenneth Tourtillott, Fort Scott, Kan., Marilyn Lowe, Nevada, and Linda Tourtillott, Nevada; 14 grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; 10 step great-grandchildren; two brothers, Raymond Tourtillott, Fort Scott, Kan., and Jewell Tourtillott, Rich Hill; and two sisters, Patty Dallefeld, Avon, Ill., and Irene Negley, Canton, Ill.

Services were held on Dec. 28, at 10 a.m., at the Heuser Funeral Home with Mary Lou Toft officiating. Music was provided by organist Wanda Kannady, soloist Wes Morton and accompanist Marsha Hooper. Pallbearers were Dylann Tourtillott, Devon Tourtillott, Scott Tourtillott, Christian Tourtillott, Matthew Tourtillott, Brandon Tourtillott, Justin Tourtillott, Jason Tourtillott, Adam Tourtillott and Jason Rohde. Honorary pallbearers were Wayne Wheatley, Claude Bradley, Dennis Williams, Carlos Wethington and Alvin Briscoe. Military rites were performed by the American Legion Post No. 67. Interment was in Greenlawn Cemetery in Rich Hill. Arrangements were by Heuser Funeral Home in Rich Hill.
