John P. Martin

John P. Martin, 81, Tiff City, Mo., formerly of Nevada, died Sunday Jan. 16, 2005, at his residence following a lengthy illness. He was born Oct. 24, 1923, in Jonesboro, Ark., to John E. Martin and Effie Ora Wilkins Martin. He was married Oct. 8, 1953, in San Gabriel, Calif., to Glenna Deene Burdick Martin. She survives of the home.

He grew up in Jonesboro and Paragould, Ark. He served in the Army Air Corp. during World War II as a heavy equipment operator stationed in England. Following the war, he lived in California for a number of years, where he met and married his wife Glenna Deene. He retired in 1975 due to poor health. He came to Nevada in 1986 and had lived in McDonald County, Mo., since 1991. He was a member of the Buffalo Creek Baptist Church.

In addition to his wife, Glenna Deene, survivors include one son, John A. Martin, Tiff City, Mo.; two daughters, Pamala A. Higinbotham, Lansing, Kan., and Kathryn E. Sutton, Anderson, Mo.; five grandchildren; three sisters, Clara Isbell, Raytown, Mo., Zola Cole and Juanita Guffey, both of Paragould, Ark. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Joe Martin; an infant brother, Ralph; and one sister, Grace Tippitt.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 22, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, with Mick Evan officiating. Interment will follow at Moore Cemetery in Nevada with military honors provided by the Missouri Military Honors Program.

Friends may call from now and until the hour of service at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada. The family suggests that memorials be made to St. John's Hospice in care of the funeral home.
