Roger "Wayne" Whisler

Roger "Wayne" Whisler, 70, of Boulder, Colo., died Monday, March 7, 2005, in Boulder, Colo. The son of Bill Whisler and Pauline Current-Whisler, he was born May 5,1934, in Nevada. He married Mary Catherine Rafferty on June 12, 1955, in Boulder, Colo.

He graduated from Nevada High School in 1952. He received a bachelor of arts degree in education from Pittsburgh State Teachers College in 1957 and a masters degree in physical education from the University of Colorado in 1976.

He taught at Rich Hill High School in Rich Hill, from 1957 to 1959 and at Adams City High School from 1959 to 1961. He was a life-sciences teacher and a coach in the Boulder Valley School District including Baseline Middle School, from 1961 to 1989. He also was a ski instructor at Eldora Mountain Resort, Hidden Valley and Winter Park. He moved to Boulder in 1961.

He was a member of Boulder Masonic Lodge No. 45; the chapter counsel and commandery of Mount Sinai Chapter, Colorado Consistory, Order of the Eastern Star, El Jebel Shrine; St. Ambrose Episcopal Church of Boulder, and the state and national education associations. He was a 32nd-degree Master Mason. He served in the U.S. Army and the National Guard.

Survivors include his wife of Boulder; two daughters, Katherine A. Graumann, of Baltimore, Md., and Deanna Whisler, of Phoenix, Ariz.; a brother, Joseph W. Whisler, of Kansas City, Mo.; and three grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Cherie Roop.

A funeral service was held at 4:30 p.m., Saturday, March 12, at St. Ambrose Episcopal Church, 7520 S. Boulder Road, Boulder, Colo. The Revs. Peter Munson and Sally Bowersocks will officiate.

Interment will be at Mountain View Memorial Park, 3016 Kalmia Ave., Boulder, Colo.
