Loyd Eugene Hendrix Sr., 76, Nevada, died Wednesday, March 23, 2005, at Moore-Few Care Center, Nevada, following a lengthy illness. He was born Oct. 28, 1928, in Nevada, to William Henry Hendrix and Bessie Wilhemina Koehler Hendrix. He married Shirley Ann Garwood on April 29, 1961, in Nevada, and she survives of the home.

Gene was born and raised in Nevada and spent virtually his entire life here. He was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church. He served for two years in the U.S. Army in Korea. Following the war, he returned to Nevada where he made his living for many years as a trucker. Later, he carpentered for several years and finally worked for eight years as a security guard at 3M, retiring in 2002.

Survivors in addition to his wife, Shirley, include one son, Loyd Eugene Hendrix Jr., and his wife, Melissa, Nevada; three daughters, Janice Hendrix, Nevada, Susan Howell and her companion, Glen Ridley, El Dorado Springs, and Dana Stevens, Nevada; nine grandchildren, Doug Duncan, Kyla Hendrix, Jared Badders, Cody Hendrix, Austin Stevens, Cori Hendrix, Dusti Stevens, Blayne Hendrix, and Joe Hendrix, all of Nevada; seven brothers, Don Hendrix, Kansas City, Kan., Gordon Hendrix, Nevada, Larry Hendrix, Nevada, Jack Hendrix, St. Joseph, Mo., Carl Hendrix, Oklahoma City, Okla., Roger Hendrix, Oregon state, and Standlee Hendrix, Neodesha, Kan.; four sisters, Martha O'Connor, Nevada, Bonnie Powell, O'Fallen, Mo., Mary Ellen "Sis" Kimberling, Overland Park, Kan., and Rose Kelly, Nevada. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by seven brothers, Paul, Herman, Joe, James, Bill, Bob and Bub Hendrix; and one sister, Ann Garske.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., on Saturday, March 26, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, with the Rev. Terry Mosher officiating. The family receives friends 1-2 p.m., Saturday, at the funeral home prior to the service. Interment will follow in Moore Cemetery, Nevada.
