Margaret Rae (Scism) Harless

Margaret Rae (Scism) Harless, 70, Van Nuys, Calif., formerly of Walker, died Sunday, April 3, 2005, in Tujunga, Calif. She was born in Siloam Springs, Ark., on Oct. 1, 1934.

While she was still very young, the family moved to Walker, where she spent her childhood. Margaret was of the Walker High School Class in 1951. After high school, Margaret married and moved to St. Louis for a short while. She was later divorced. She then married Donald Glenn Harless, who precedes her in death. Margaret and Don moved to Wichita, Kan., where she worked for Sedgewick County Sheriff's Office. Her life course then led to her living and working in Deity, Salina, and Hutchinson, Kan., as well as Nevada and Houston, Mo. In 1964, she moved to the San Fernando Valley, outside of Los Angeles, Calif. She worked there as switchboard operator at Galpin Ford. She also worked as a switchboard/receptionist at Foxboro before being employed as a cost accountant at Bendix Corporation/Allied Signal. She retired from Allied Signal in 1994.

Margaret is preceded in death by her younger brothers, Gale and Kenneth; by her younger sisters, Neverly and Beverly; as well as by her parents, Ray Edward Scism and Nancy Margaret Scism Earll. She is survived by her husband, Thomas John Borlace, whose love and compassion for their mother is so deeply appreciated by her children, Nancy Marlene Hosner, Donald Glen Harless Jr., Rhonda Rae Seigel and Terrence Dean Harless. She is also survived by her five grandchildren, David Harless, Kristina Lewis, Sgt. Aaron Seigel, Matthew Seigel and Anndrea Harless. Her younger sisters, Shirley Bear and Sandra Clark and her younger brothers, Dale Scism, Hearl Scism, Jearl Scism, Ray Dean Scism, and Larry Scism also survive her. She leaves behind two great-grandchildren, Jaeliece and Jacelyn Lewis; numerous nieces and nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

Margaret spent her last hours surrounded by her husband, children and some of her siblings. Many are the individuals who will miss her loving embrace. All will miss the wonderful sense of humor which overshadowed the cancer that ended her life. Those who knew her know the gaps her absence will leave in your lives.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., on Saturday, April 9, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, with Ray Dean Scism officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Vernon Cemetery, Walker. Friends may call now and until the hour of service and the family receives friends Friday, April 8, from 7-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
