Arnold 50th anniversary

The children and grandchildren of Jack and Phyllis Arnold, long-time residents of Nevada and Vernon County, will host an open house Sunday, July 17, from 2 to 4 p.m., in the parlor of the First Christian Church, Nevada, to celebrate the 50th wedding anniversary of their parents.

Jack Arnold and the former Phyllis Terrill were married in the Sheldon United Methodist Church on July 17, 1955, by the Rev. J.K. Wright. The Arnolds spent their first year of marriage in Tampa, Fla., while he completed his fourth year in the United States Air Force. Other areas of residence included Springfield, Mo., where Jack completed college at Southwest Missouri State University, Harrisonville and Humansville, Mo., before moving to Illinois for nine years. The couple returned to Missouri in 1973 and have enjoyed living in Nevada since that time.

Jack worked in the field of education for 30 years, beginning his career as a teacher and coach at Walker school in 1959. He served as a school counselor for Nevada R-5 for 20 years. Phyllis Arnold worked as a para professional at Nevada R-5 schools for 25 years, as a secretary for the Tech Center and in the high school health office.

He lists his hobbies and interests as golf and selling real estate for Stutesman Action Realty. She enjoys playing bridge, golf and being a part of the local hospital auxiliary. Both enjoy following their grandsons' school and sports activities.

The Arnolds are parents of Shari Hamblin and husband, Bill, of Overland Park, Kan., and Dena Cooper and husband, Lee, of Harrisonville, Mo., and grandparents of Chris Hamblin, Kansas City, Mo., Matt Hamblin, Overland Park, and Sam and Luke Cooper, Harrisonville.

Serving at the reception will be the sisters of the couple, Sue Logan of Harrisonville, and Linda Eveans of Overland Park, and sister-in-law Joann Arnold of Nevada.

The couple noted that they are fortunate to have as an important part of their lives Phyllis' mother, Loucille Burch, who will be attending the reception.
