Smith, Schloss wed in Mississippi

Apollo Christi Smith became the bride of 1st Lt. Michael Scott Schloss on Jan. 15, 2005, at the Bridge Builders Church in Meridian, Miss. Minister Roger Doyle solemnized the vows of the ceremony amid church decorations in the bridal colors of burgundy and gold. Bridal music featured "God of Second Chances."

Parents of the couple are Jim and Cheryl Smith of Nevada, Mo., and Timothy Schloss of Sidney, Ohio, and Kathy and Ron Gorby of St. Mary's, Ohio.

Given in marriage by her father and mother, the bride wore a white Maggie Olympia gown and carried a bouquet of red roses.

Katie Horn of Ithaca, N.Y., attired in a burgundy tea-length dress, attended the bride as maid of honor. Bridesmaids were Stacy Jackson, Neosho, Mo., Thea Tracy, Omaha, Neb., and Robin Jones, Nevada, Mo. Flower girl was Gabby Gire of Nevada.

Kevin Doyle, of Meridian, served as best man. Groomsmen were Michael Beesley, David Morgan and Sam Vincient, all of Meridian.

For her daughter's wedding, Cheryl Smith wore a burgundy and black ensemble. The groom's mother, Kathy Gorby, wore a black dress.

Upon leaving the ceremony, the newlyweds walked beneath a six-sword arch formed by a Navy and Marine Corps honor guard.

A reception followed at the Bridge Builders Church. House and table decorations featured an Asian theme.

Following a wedding trip to Gatlinburg, Tenn., the couple are residing in Meridian.

Marine Corps 1st Lt. Schloss earned the right to wear the coveted "Wings of Gold" on June 3, 2005. He has been assigned to the Harrier and recently received his orders to go to Cherry Point, N.C., Aug. 1, for training. After training, he will be stationed in Yuma, Ariz., where the couple will reside for three years.
