Roy Herman Hawkins, 87, Walker, died Wednesday, July 27, 2005, at Christian Health Care in Nevada, following a lengthy illness.

He was born August 17, 1917, in Nevada, to Louis S. Hawkins and Ada Ellen Neal Hawkins. He married Betty L. Bishop on June 5, 1945, in Fort Scott, Kan., and she survives of the home.

He lived his whole life in Vernon County. He attended Walker Schools. He served in the U.S. Army from 1942-1945 in the 172nd Infantry. He was wounded in action during his service in the South Pacific and received the Purple Heart. Following the service, he drove a truck from 1945-1972. He was then a bus driver for the Walker School District for 20 years, retiring in 1983.

Survivors in addition to his wife, Betty, of the home, include numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one brother, Charles Hawkins.

The family will receive friends from 1-2 p.m., on Saturday, July 30, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada. Graveside services will follow in Moore Cemetery, Nevada, with the Rev. Charles Brown officiating.
