Howard Lee Lightwine

Howard Lee Lightwine, 63, Moundville, Mo., formerly of Fort Scott, Kan., died Wednesday, Nov. 30, 2005, at his home in Moundville, following an illness of several months. He was born Dec. 16, 1941, in Fort Scott, to Harold Lee Lightwine and Maida Bell Parker Lightwine. He married Anita Pettibon in South Carolina and she survives of the home.

Howard grew up and went to school in Fort Scott. He entered the U. S. Navy at age 17, and served for 20 years. He was active during the Vietnam Conflict and retired as a chief boiler technician in 1978. He was awarded the Navy Achievement Medal for his service. Howard was a member of the Nevada American Legion Post No. 2, the Fleet Reserve Association MO-KAN branch and Unit 161 of Kansas City, Mo. He worked for Kansas City Power and Light for several years as a boiler technician. He farmed near Moundville for a number of years and also drove a school bus for the Bronaugh R-7 and Nevada R-5 school districts.

Survivors in addition to his wife, Anita, include four sons, Les Lightwine, Springfield, Mo., Lee Lightwine, Peoria, Ill., Anthony Lightwine and Michael Lightwine, both of Moundville; nine grandchildren; one sister, Irene Hayes, Fort Scott; two brothers, Harold Lightwine, Chanute, Kan., Bob Lightwine, Lewisville, Texas; and also several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., on Friday, Dec. 2, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada. Interment will follow in National Cemetery, Fort Scott. Friends may call now and until the hour of service and the family receives friends 9-10 a.m., Friday prior to the service at the funeral home.
