Hazel Lee Thorburn, 74, Lamar, Mo., formerly of Nevada, died Wednesday, Jan. 25, 2006, at Truman Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center, Lamar, following a lengthy illness. She was born March 18, 1931, in Golden City, Mo., to Robert Lee Jones and Ethel May Rice Jones. She was married to Arthur Thorburn in Las Vegas, Nev., and he preceded her in death.

Hazel grew up on a farm, near Sheldon, Mo., and attended the Montevallo School. She and her husband lived in Las Vegas, for 17 years. She moved back to Nevada in 1989. Most of her working life was spent as a nurse's aide. Hazel has lived in Truman Healthcare since 1998.

Survivors include two daughters, Connie Messick, Nevada, and Judy Nelson, Calispel, Mont.; one son, Larry Messick, Calispel, six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; three sisters, Bobbie Kay Schweigert, Grandview, Mo., Evelyn Flewelling, Olathe, Kan., and Cleta Malone, St. Louis, Mo. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur; one daughter, Debbie Sue Messick, and two sisters, Ruby Rackley and Arvilla Zelar.

Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m., on Monday, Jan. 30, at Milo Cemetery, Milo, Mo., with John Nichols officiating. Friends may call now and until 1:30 p.m., on Monday at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada.
