Charles W. Bertoncino, 64, of Arma died at 3:35 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 3, 2006, at Craig General Hospital at Vinita, Okla.

Mr. Bertoncino was born Aug. 19, 1941, at Girard, Kan., the son of Charles and Jennie Careggio Bertoncino. Mr. Bertoncino was a school teacher, farmer, and stockman. He attended Arma Schools and graduated from Arma High School in 1958. He attended Fort Scott Community College and later Pittsburg State University where he received a degree in education. He taught school in Erie, Kan., and Bronaugh, Mo., and Arma for 38 years. He also coached basketball.

He lived in rural Arma all his life. He married Dorothy Gulliford on July 7, 1962, at Bronaugh. Mrs. Bertoncino survives of the home. He was a member of the Arma United Methodist Church, the Kansas State Teachers Association, and a board member of the Farm Service Agency.

Additional survivors include one daughter, Gina Bertoncino of Pittsburg, Kan.; two sons, Greg Bertoncino of Joplin, Mo., and Thomas Bertoncino of Kansas City, Mo.; one sister, Jannette Allai of Pittsburg; and two grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m., Monday, Feb. 6, at the Bedene Funeral Home at Arma, Kan., with the Rev. Don Foster officiating. Charlie Hampton will give the eulogy. Burial will be in the Pittsburg Garden of Memories Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 3-5 p.m., Sunday at the Bedene Chapel at Arma where friends may call after 11 a.m., on Sunday. Arrangements are under the direction of the Bodene Funeral Home at Arma.
