Dora Loyala McDonald

Dora Loyala McDonald, 96, Nevada, Mo., died Sunday, Feb. 12, 2006, at Christian Health Care in Nevada, following an illness of a few weeks. She was born March 1, 1909, in Walnut, Kan., to William Irving Thomas and Alice Teresa Jones Thomas. She and William Walter McDonald were married on Dec. 6, 1930, in Ottawa, Kan. He preceded her in death on April 28, 1984.

Dora was born and reared in Walnut. She came to Nevada as a young woman and spent virtually the rest of her life here. She worked for many years as a bookkeeper at Farm and Home Savings and Loan Association and retired from there. She was a member and officer of the BPW and Nevada Garden Club. She was an avid traveler and loved gardening, plants, and birds; particularly hummingbirds.

Survivors include seven nieces and nephews, 11 great-nieces and nephews, six great-great-nieces and nephews, and her close friend, Robert Schlyer, Rich Hill, Mo.

Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m., on Monday, Feb. 20, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Nevada, with the Rev. Anthony Pileggi officiating. Committal will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, Fort Scott, Kan. Friends may call now and until 9 a.m., on Monday, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada.

Memorials may be given to St. Mary's Catholic Church, Nevada.
