Norman William Floyd

Norman William Floyd, 88, Greenwood, Ind., formerly of Nevada, died Thursday, March 9, 2006, at Community South Hospital in Indianapolis, Ind., following an illness of two months. He was born Feb. 22, 1918, in Nevada, to Norvil David Floyd and Lola Mabel Moore Floyd. He married Lora Mildred Newland on March 26, 1945, in Fort Scott, Kan., and she survives of the home.

Norman was born in Nevada and spent part of his young life in Iowa. After high school, he served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Following the service, he returned to this area and worked in the newspaper business in Butler and later Boonville. Floyd moved to Indiana in 1990 and spent the remainder of his life there. He was a member of the Christ United Methodist Church in Indianapolis and a member of the American Legion.

Survivors in addition to his wife Mildred include one daughter, Elaine Gilmore and her husband Terry, Greenwood, Tenn.; one granddaughter, Christina Webster, O'Fallon, Mo.; two great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Grace Webster and Adam Christopher Webster, O'Fallon; three sisters, Dorothy Daily, Springfield, Mo., Helen Hedges, Nevada, Mo., and Vjay Sherk, Clearwater, Fla. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Howard and Richard Floyd.

Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m., on Monday, March 13, at Mt. Vernon Cemetery, Walker, Mo., with the Rev. Ralph Clark officiating. Friends may call now and until 9:30 a.m., Monday, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada.
