John R. Johnson, 79, Neosho, died at 8:20 p.m., March 31, 2006, at Carthage Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Carthage, following a short illness. Mr. Johnson was born June 9, 1926, in Kansas City, Kan., and moved to Neosho in 1968 from Miami, Okla. Jack married Lain Bamford on Dec. 28, 1953, at Unity Village in Lee's Summit, Mo., and she preceded him in death on Oct. 12, 2002.

He served in the Ninth Artillery out of Fort Dix, 1950-'52 during the Korean Conflict. He worked for a vending service, Canteen, and retired in 1988. He was a 32 degree Mason, a member of the Hill Billy Shriners, was active at the Neosho Senior Center, where he was an avid card and pool player, and was a member of the First Christian Church, where he was a member of the Dynamic Sunday school class and had served as a deacon.

He is survived by a daughter, Julie Johnson of Buckeye, Ariz.; and cousins.

Services will be Wednesday, April 5, at 10 a.m., at the Clark Funeral Home Chapel of Memories, Neosho, Mo., with the Rev. Craig Kirby-Grove officiating. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m., Wednesday, at the Underwood Cemetery, Nevada, Mo. Friends may call at the Clark Funeral Home, Neosho on Tuesday, from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., and the family will receive friends from 6-7 p.m., at the funeral home.
