Velma Lorraine Mackey

Velma Lorraine Mackey, 83, Sheldon, Mo., passed away Saturday, July 15, 2006, at Christian Health Care, Nevada, following a lengthy illness. She was born Feb. 14, 1923, in Okeene, Okla., to Solomon Weber and Salome Lorence Weber. She was married Nov. 15, 1948, in Enid, Okla., to Lawrence Mackey and he survives of the home.

Mrs. Mackey was born and reared in Oklahoma. She came to this area in 1951 and has resided here since. She worked for many years at Nelly-Don in Nevada, and later she worked for 10 years at the Nevada State Hospital retiring in 1989.

In addition to her husband, Lawrence, she is survived by three children, James Mackey, Lamar, Mo., Cleta Weaver, Mound Valley, Kan., and Pam Moffatt, Carthage, Mo.; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, July 19, at the Sheldon Christian Church, Sheldon, with Andrew Kirschner officiating. Interment will follow in Sheldon Cemetery.

Friends may call now and until noon on Wednesday at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada.

The family suggests that memorials may be made to the Parkinson's Foundation in care of the funeral home.
