Marjorie R. Hurst

Marjorie R. Hurst, 84, Nevada, died Monday, Aug. 7, 2006, at Moore-Few Care Center, Nevada. She was born Aug. 25, 1921, in Almeda, Texas, the second daughter of Benjamin H. Sheldon and Francis Gaston Muse. She and her family moved to Kansas where she spent her childhood.

Marjorie married the love of her life, Charles Hurst Jr. on Nov. 8, 1942, in Wichita, Kan., while they were both working for Boeing Aircraft. Marjorie and Charles moved with their family to Bronaugh, Missouri in 1962, and then moved to Nevada to be closer to their family after their retirement. Marjorie graduated from High School in Cedar Vale, Kan., and attended college in Winfield, Kan. Marjorie retired from the state hospital in Nevada after 22 years of service. She was a member of the Bronaugh Christian Church. Additionally, Marjorie was a member of Bushwhacker Quilting Guild and secretary of the Bronaugh Volunteer Fire department for several years.

Marjorie is survived by her husband Charles of the home; two sons Benjamin L. and Julie A. Hurst, of East Wenatchee, Wash., and Joe H. and Linda Hurst, of Nevada; five grandchildren, Lila Hurst-Carta, Leonard Hurst, Louise Hurst-Rediger of East Wenatchee, Christina Hurst-Compton and Bradley W. and Sherry K. Hurst of Nevada; eight great-grandchildren, Brandi Hurst, Ryan Rediger and Benjamin Carta of East Wenatchee, Ashleigh and Brandon Compton, Samantha Williams, and Reba and Justin Hurst of Nevada; one sister, Helen J. Sailors of Fort Scott, Kan.; one niece, Kay; and one nephew, Bill. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Judith A. Hurst Willoughby.

Marjorie was a fantastic wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She doted on all of her grandchildren and loved being with them as often as possible. One of her favorite pastimes was creating beautiful handmade quilts for her family and friends. Another favorite of hers was "her squirrels." She had a feeder outside her backdoor and left pecans for the squirrels to eat. Once she even coaxed one inside to eat pecans from her hand.

Marjorie will be cremated and buried in Atchison, Kan. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Bronaugh Volunteer Fire Department or Bronaugh Scholarship Fund which can be made through Ferry Funeral Home. There will be no local services.
