Frances Maxine Simpson

Frances Maxine Simpson, 85, Nevada, Mo., passed away Tuesday, Sept. 19, 2006, at St. Luke's Hospital, Kansas City, Mo., following a brief illness. She was born Feb. 14, 1921, in Lucerne, Mo., to William Thomas "Button" Young and Josie Newell Young. She was married in 1937 in Nevada, to James Godfrey Hartzfeld and he died Aug. 27,1972. She then married Thomas M. Simpson, Nov. 17, 1977, in Butler, Mo. He died Dec. 16, 2004.

Mrs. Simpson came to Vernon County at a young age. She was reared and went to school in Bronaugh, Mo. She worked for Key Work Clothes in Nevada, for 25 years until her retirement. She was known for her quilting of over 300 quilts. Mrs. Simpson was a Methodist.

Survivors include, three grandchildren, Jim Hartzfeld and wife Jan, Atlanta, Ga., Kim McNeley and husband David, Kansas City, Mo., and Kendall Hartzfeld, Nevada; four great-grandchildren, Grant McNeley, Jillian Hartzfeld, Carlin McNeley and Kenneth Hartzfeld; one daughter-in-law, Nola Hartzfeld; along with numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; both of her husbands; one son, Kenneth Ray Hartzfeld; and two brothers, Kenneth Young and George Young.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 23, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, with the Rev. Ralph Clark officiating. Interment will follow at Newton Burial Park in Nevada.

Friends may call now and until the time of service at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada. The family will receive friends at the home of Nola Hartzfeld, Nevada, Mo., following the services.
