Charles Raymond Stark

Charles Raymond Stark, 82, Independence, Mo., formerly Sheldon, Mo., passed away on Saturday, Oct. 7, 2006, in Independence. He was born Aug. 10, 1924, in Lamar, Mo., to Levi Stark and Opal Hunter Stark. He married Rita Williams in 1962 in Nevada. She preceded him in death in 2001.

Charles was born in Lamar, and reared in Sheldon. He attended schools in Milo. When he was 17, he joined the Navy and served for two years in Korea. He later joined the U.S. Army where he served for nearly 20 years; during that time he was stationed in France for 12 years. Following the service, Charles worked as a baker and school bus driver until 1998. He has lived in Independence since 1965. He loved his grandchildren and fishing.

Survivors include seven grandchildren, Cheryl Rosewell, Blue Springs, Mo., Scott Blackburn, Lansing, Kan., John Sciandra, Sheri Sciandra, Mark Sciandra, Steven Sciandra, and Craig Sciandra, all of Florida; and 17 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, and his wife in 2001.

Graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Saturday, Oct. 14, in Dunnegan Grove Cemetery, near Sheldon, with Mike Hutchens officiating. Friends may call now and until 9:30 a.m., on Saturday at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada.
