George Robert Dalton

George Robert Dalton, 87, of Pittsburg, Kan., died on Monday, Dec. 25, 2006, at the Sunset Manor Nursing Center in Frontenac. He was born on Nov. 20, 1919, at Nevada, Mo., to George William and Madeline Lillian (Krebs) Dalton. He was a graduate of Nevada High School. He attended Fort Scott Community College and graduated from Park College in Parkville, Mo., with a degree in chemistry. He was united in marriage to Janet Fastwood on July 27, 1947, at the First United Methodist Church in Pittsburg. She survives of the home.

Mr. Dalton worked for Spencer Chemical and Gulf/Chevron for 39 years. He was a long-time member of the First United Methodist Church, a 65-year member of the Masonic Lodge No. 187, the Scottish Rite Consistory, the Eastern Star, the White Shrine, and the Mirza Temple, where he was involved with the Funsters. He was an avid Boy Scout supporter. Mr. Dalton served as scoutmaster at South Broadway Baptist Church and First United Methodist Church; the cub master at the First United Methodist Church; and a guide for expedition to Philmont. He also received the Golden Scouter's Award. He also managed little league baseball.

Survivors in addition to his wife include two sons, Michael E. Dalton and wife Suzie of Pittsburg, George Stuart Dalton and wife Pam of Zephyrhills, Fla.; brother-in-law, Leland and Rosie Dalton of Nevada; six grandchildren, J.J. Dalton, Emily Wright, J.W. Dalton, Neal Dalton, Ashley, Dalton and Madeline Dalton; three step-grandchildren, Jenny Hayde, Jason Dennis and Kim Clay; great-granddaughter, Cynthia Dalton; step-great-grandson, Alexander Hayde. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services were at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, Dec. 28, at the Brenner Mortuary with Jim Sukraw and Bobby Winters officiating. Masonic services were provided by the Pittsburg Masonic Lodge No. 187. He was cremated following the services and inurnment will be in the Newton Burial Park, Nevada, at a later date.
