Lilas M. (Thomas) Cox, age 92, died at 1:40 p.m. on March 20, 2007, having been in poor health for some time. Lilas was born Aug. 28, 1914, in Moundville, Mo., the ninth of 11 children born to Henry and Rosa Weber.

Lilas was a member of numerous medical organizations and worked in various nursing services until retiring in 1976. She was also a member of the National Avenue Christian Church in Springfield. She liked to read and write human interest stories and had some of her stories published in the Springfield Magazine, Southern Living, National Gardener, and others.

She is survived by her children, Juna Green of Springfield, Mo., Melba Burris and husband Lee of Springfield, and Dan Thomas and wife Sandra of Nevada, Mo; six grandchildren, and their spouses, David and Michelle Reed of St. Charles, Mo., Mark and Renee Reed of Springfield, Greg and Betsy Burris of Springfield, Hollie and Steve Hinton of 0zark, Mo., Troy Thomas of Oklahoma City, Okla., Aaron and Shelia Thomas of Stillwater, Mo.; six great-grandchildren; by brother, Tony Weber of Nevada; and many loving nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents and nine brothers and sisters.

Cremation is under the direction of Greenlawn South with graveside services to be held at a later date.
