Roger Leath Hill

Roger Leath Hill, age 75, resident of Fort Scott, Kan., died Tuesday, April 17, 2007, at the Mercy Health Center. He was born Feb. 27, 1932, in Ellsinore, Mo., the son of Buell Hill and Beulah Stephens Hill.

He served in the U.S. Marines and was a member of the Olson Frary Burkhart Post No. 1165 V.F.W. Roger drove trucks for several local companies. He served as chief of the Bourbon County Search and Rescue. He enjoyed leading the "pedal pull," a tractor pull for children. He also loved to hunt and fish. His children will miss their beloved dad, who is now "driving on heaven's highways."

Roger is survived by his wife, Agnes Ruth Hill, of the home; two sons, Dennis Hill and wife Frances, Lamar, Mo., and Dallas Hill and wife Tammy, Arma, Kan.; two daughters, Diana Fleeman and husband Tony, Fort Scott, and Dawn Maurer and husband Mike, Germany; three step-daughters, Michelle Abbott, Linda Wilson, and Tamela Lashley; brother, Wayne Sturgeon and wife Candace, Ozark, Mo.; sister Doris Carter and husband Bill, St. Louis, Mo.; 11 grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a wife, Bonnie Hill, and half-brother, Robert Hill.

Funeral services for will be held at 1:30 p.m., Friday, April 20, 2007, at the Cheney Witt Chapel. Burial with military honors will follow in the U.S. National Cemetery. The family will receive friends for visitation from 7-8 p.m., Thursday evening at the Cheney Witt Chapel.
