Violet O. Humphrey

Violet O. Humphrey, 90, of Hume, Mo., died Wednesday, May 2, 2007, at St. Luke's Hospital, Kansas City. Mo. She was born April 21, 1917, in Linn County, Kan., the daughter of George and Leona Graham Henne.

She graduated from Hume High School. On Dec. 26, 1936, she married Edward Humphrey at Butler, Mo. He preceded her in death on March 20, 1986. She and Edward owned the Humphrey Grocery, and later owned Humphrey TV in Hume. Violet was a member of the Hume United Methodist Church and was actively involved with quilting and making articles for the Lords Acre Day. She loved to cook and was always willing to do so for any church function. She was a member of Order of Eastern Star and had received her 50-year pin.

Survivors include two sons, Melvin Humphrey and Judy of Nevada, and Merl Humphrey and Margaret of Fort Scott, Kan.; four grandchildren, Mark, Kristen, Marsha, and Marilyn; eight great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; and two brothers, Verl and Orville Henne.

Services will be held at 2 p.m., Sunday, May 6, at the United Methodist Church, Hume. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m., Saturday at the Coffel-Schneider Chapel, Hume.

Interment will be in Hume Cemetery. Contributions are suggested to the Hume United Methodist Church.
