Billy Mac Bales, 87, Bronaugh, died Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2008, in Memorial Herman Hospital in Houston, Texas, following a lengthy illness. He was born Feb. 1, 1920, in Bronaugh, to William James Bales and Bertha Estelle McReynolds Bales.

He was married May 5, 1951, in Nevada, to Juanita Wilson and she survives in Houston, Texas.

Mr. Bales was born and raised in Vernon County, and spent most all of his life here. He served in the United States Army during World War II, in Calcutta, India. Following the service he worked for more than 30 years for Ozark Production Credit and also made his living as a farmer. He was a member of the First Christian Church in Nevada, the Liberal Masonic Lodge and the Order of the Eastern Star in Nevada. He was an avid antique collector as well as a hunter and fisherman.

In addition to his wife Juanita, survivors include two sons, Ken Bales, Omaha, Neb. and Kevin Bales and his wife Julie, Houston, Texas; two granddaughters, Hilary Bales-Morales and her husband Joseph, Dallas, Texas, and Audrey Bales, Seattle, Wash.; one great-grandson, Liam Morales, Dallas, Texas.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Monday, Jan. 7, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, with Bill Platt officiating. Interment will follow, with full military honors, in Worsley Cemetery, Bronaugh.

Friends may call now and until the hour of service at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada and the family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday evening between 6:30 and 7:30 p.m.
