Levi Marvin Carlson

Levi Marvin Carlson, 84, Nevada, passed away on Monday, Jan. 21, 2008, at Culpepper Place, in Nevada, following a lengthy illness. He was born Oct. 29, 1923, in Carlton, Kan., to Nells August Carison and Daisy Euvaline Woods Canison. He married Florence Cecelia Feeney on Jan. 21, 1945, in Elmo, Kan. She preceded him in death on Oct. 29, 1996.

Levi grew up in Carlton, Kan. He served in the United States Navy during World War II, stationed in the Soloman Islands, in the South Pacific. He worked for the Missouri Pacific Railroad, in Kansas and Missouri. Later, he worked in the GM Automobile Factory in Kansas City, Mo. Levi came to Vernon County in 1949. He ran a dairy farm and drove amilk truck. He worked at the Nevada State Hospital for 26 years, retiring in 1988. He also raised cattle. Levi was a Past Commander of the American Legion Post No. 2 and began the American Legion Christmas Dinner Program years ago. He was also a member of the Nevada Eagles Lodge No. 3770 and the VFW Post No. 2175.

Survivors include two sons, Marvin Carlson and his wife, Angela, Plattsmouth, Neb., and Terry Carlson and his wife, Debbie, Nevada; one daughter, Catherine Stump, Liberty, Mo.; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; one brother, Emil Carlson, Carlton, Kan.; several nieces aud nephews, and special friend, Mary Ann Hendrix. He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter Rose Mary Carlson; an infant son, Kenneth; one brother, Leonard Carlson, and one sister, Edna Hobson.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m., on Wednesday, Jan. 23, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, with Mark Shaffer officiating. Interment with Military Honors will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Nevada. Friends may call now and until the hour of service on Wednesday. The family will receive friends 7-8 p.m., on Tuesday evening, Jan. 22, at the funeral home.
