Helen Taylor Gast, 92, of Nevada, passed away Thursday, Feb. 28, 2008, at Moore-Few Care Center, in Nevada, following a brief illness, She was born Feb. 8, 1916, in Nevada, to Roy Elsworth Taylor and Bertha Maude Wilson Taylor. She was married to Duane Gast on April 28, 1940, in Nevada. He preceded her in death on June 17, 1987.

Helen was reared in Nevada and graduated from Nevada High School. She then graduated from Pittsburg State Teachers College, in Pittsburg, Kan. During World War II, she worked at Herdy Iron Works, in California. Helen taught school at several local country schools west of Nevada and then taught at Franklin School for the Nevada R-5 district for many years until her retirement in 1976. Helen enjoyed staing at home, gardening and caring for her pets. She was a member of the Moundville Methodist Church, Delta Kappa Gamma sorority and the Nevada Garden Club.

Survivors include two sisters, Dorothy Tyer and Margaret Scott, both of Nevada; one brother Roy Taylor and his wife Joy, of Nevada; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; one sister-in-law, Amy Gast Rice and her husband Bob, of San Jose, Calif. In addition to her husband Duane, she was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Marjory, in 2007.

A private committal will be held at at later date.
