Clayton E. Cavanaugh

Clayton E. Cavanaugh, 93, of Nevada, passed away Saturday, March 15, 2008, at Nevada Regional Medical Center, Nevada. He was born January 25, 1915, in Douglas, Okla., to Charles Cavanaugh and Norma Frances Moorman Cavanaugh. He was married July 31, 1937, in Nickerson, Kan., to Helen A. Doolin and she preceded him in death on Dec. 23, 2005.

Mr. Cavanaugh grew up in Oklahoma and graduated from Afton High School in 1933. After high school he lived in Nickerson, Kan., for several years. Following his marriage he and Helen came to Vernon County, where he farmed and later worked for Nevada State Hospital for many years. He was also a self-employed carpenter and a member of the First Baptist Church in Nevada.

Survivors include four children, Patricia Stark and her husband Don, Nevada, Curtis Cavanaugh and his wife Willie, Slater, Mo., Lynarlin Courtney, Wichita, Kan., and Lois Owings and her husband Chuck, Nevada; 14 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, and seven great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Leslie Cavanaugh and Orrel Cavanaugh, both of Hutchinson, Kan.; one sister, Edna Brock, state of California. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by one brother, three sisters, and one great-great-granddaughter, Zoey Ipock.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., on Tuesday, March 18, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, with Dr. William Cox officiating. Interment will follow in Newton Burial Park in Nevada.

Friends may call now and until the hour of service at Ferry Funeral Home and the family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m., Tuesday, prior to the service at the funeral home.

The family suggests memorials may be made in his honor to the Nevada First Baptist Church Building Fund in care of the funeral home.
