Mary A. Houghton, 73, of Mulberry, died at 12:29 a.m., Wednesday, April 16, 2008, at Mt. Carmel Regional Medical Center, in Pittsburg, Kan.

Mrs. Houghton was born April 3, 1935, at Mulberry, the daughter of Karl W. and Myrtle A. Walker Hoop. Mary was a homemaker and also worked at Home Health Care. Mary was reared in Mulberry and graduated from Mulberry High School in 1953. She married Donald R. Hougton on June, 9, 1953, at the Mulberry Presbyterian Church. Mr. Houghton survives of the home. Additional survivors include; five daughters, Maricia Satfford and her husband Dave, of Mulberry, Kimberly Waggener and her husband Jerry, of Weir, Dana Shaffer and her husband Bill, of Mulberry, Pamela Houghton of Arma, and Kristin Netherton and her husband Jim, of Richards; one sister, Bonnie Compton, of Pittsburg; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Mary was preceded in death by her parents; step-father, Buford Reeder; three sisters, Lorene Wilson, Nadine Egender and Deloris Goodloe; three brothers, Carl Norman and Bob Hoop; and a grandson, Donnie Stafford.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m., Saturday, April 19, at Bedene Funeral Home, at Arma with the Rev. Schuyler McCracken officiating. Burial was at the Rosebank Cemeter, in Mulberry. The familly recieved friends from 7 to 8 p.m., Friday, April 18. The family suggests memorials to the Mulberry Senior Citizens Building Fund.
