Roy Eugene Whalan

Roy Eugene Whalan, 67, Nevada, passed away on Sunday, June 22, 2008, at St. John's Regional Medical Center, in Joplin, Mo., following a lengthy illness. He was born Feb. 24, 1941, in Nevada, to Timothy Wilber Whalan and Lucy Lucille Moore Whalan. He married Doris Ann Bowen on Dec. 24, 1994, in Nevada, and she survives of the home.

Roy was born and reared in Nevada and lived here his whole life. He served in the United States Navy in the early 1960s. Roy made his living as a maintenance supervisor at Nevada Habilitation Center retiring in 1996. He was a member of the Elks Lodge No. 564, American Legion Post No. 2, Eagles Lodge No. 3770, V.F.W. Post No. 2175, and was also a Shriner. Roy loved to hunt, fish and camp.

Survivors in addition to his wife Doris, include: three children, Tony Whalan, of Clinton, Mo., Bill Whalan, of Warrensburg, Mo., and Jeannie Kay Whalan, of Warrensburg; three stepchildren, Ron Pruitt, of Nevada, Curtis Pruitt, of the state of Texas, and Rhonda Butler, of the state of Texas; seven grandchildren; six stepgrandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one stepgreat-grandchild; one sister Louise Bennette, of Joplin; one half-sister, Lanora Marshall, of the state of Kansas; two half-brothers, Charles Waltz, of the state of Illinois, and Sam DeVore, of Nevada.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m., on Wednesday, June 25, at National Cemetery, in Fort Scott, with Dr. William Cox officiating. Friends may call now and until 10 a.m., Wednesday at Ferry Funeral Home.

Memorials may be given to the Vernon County Cancer Relief Fund in care of Ferry Funeral Home.
