Raymond Lewis Murphy, 83, Nevada, passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 10, 2008, at Freeman Health System East, Joplin, Mo., following a recent illness. He was born April 3, 1925, in Metz, Mo., to John Lee Murphy and Goldie Mae Stowers Murphy.

Raymond was born and raised in this area and spent most all his life here. He graduated from Metz High School. Raymond served in the United States Air Force during World War II. Following the service, he worked at a variety of jobs including the maintenance department at Cottey College for 13 years. He was a member of the Church of Christ.

Survivors include three sons, Edward Murphy, Joplin, Mo., Roy Murphy, Cameron, Mo., and Jeffrey Murphy, Cameron, Mo.; one daughter, Connie Rogers, Independence, Mo.; eight grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, David; four brothers, and two sisters.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., on Monday, Sept. 15, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, with pastor David Rorabaugh officiating. Interment will follow in Moore Cemetery, Nevada. Friends may call now and until the hour of service at the funeral home.

Memorials may be given to the American Heart Association in care of Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada.
