Maynard Emery Thompson

Maynard Emery Thompson, 71, Leavenworth, Kan., passed away on Tuesday, Sept. 30, 2008, at Shawnee Mission Medical Center, Kansas City, Mo., following an illness of several weeks. He was born Feb. 15, 1937, in St. Paul, Kan., to Thomas Edward Thompson and Maxine Geraldine Klinefelter Thompson. He married Dixie Lee McGrath on April 19, 1959, in Milo, Mo., and she survives of the home.

Mr. Thompson was born in St. Paul, Kan., and grew up in Deerfield, Mo. He graduated from Nevada High School in 1955. He made his living as owner/operator of Lucky T. Lanes, in Girard, Kan. He also had a construction company titled D.C. Construction and did subcontracting work for Bell Telephone. Mr. Thompson also did some security work later in life. He was a member of the Milo Baptist Church, Milo, Mo. He was an avid sportsman and particularly liked the MU Tigers and the Cleveland Browns.

Survivors in addition to his wife Dixie, include two sons, Rocky Thompson, Topeka, Kan., and Matt Tilley, Columbus, Kan.; four grandchildren, Chad Thompson and Rachelle Thompson, both of Pittsburg, Kan., and Shannon Thompson and Shawn Thompson, both of Joplin, Mo.; one sister, Ronda Bailey, Fort Scott; one stepsister, Wanda Haley, Nevada, and four stepbrothers, William Wyckoff, Moundville, Mo., Willard Wyckoff, Independence, Mo., Wiley Wyckoff, Nevada, and Weldon Wyckoff, Louisville, Ky. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Edward Thompson and Dwayne Thompson and one stepsister, Wilma Carpenter.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., on Saturday, Oct. 4, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, with John Nichols officiating. Interment will follow in Milo Cemetery, Milo, Mo. Friends may call Thursday afternoon and until the hour of service at the funeral home.
