May F. Peterson, 84, Carthage, Mo., passed away on Nov. 6, 2008, in Richards, Mo., at the home of her daughter Lorine. She was born in Wakonda, S.D., on March 27, 1924, to Willoughby and Martha (Hackett) Hall. She grew up in the Wakonda area. She married Laurence A. Peterson on April 3, 1946, in Pipestone, Minn., and they farmed in the Salem-Montrose area.

During her lifetime she enjoyed gardening, cooking, baking, canning, and raising her chickens. She was a member of Ramsey Baptist Church and TOPS. She loved being with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a loving wife and mother of five children. She had lived in Carthage for the past four years.

Survivors include four daughters, Lorine Feldmann and her husband Fred, Richards, Mo., Darlene Kappenman, Sioux Falls, S.D.; Elaine Laursen and her husband Steve, Apache Junction, Ariz., and Doris Fry, Carthage, Mo.; one son, Milton Peterson and his wife Azizia, Montrose, S.D.; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and two sisters. She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; three brothers; two sisters; and a great-granddaughter, Rachel May.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, Nov. 12, 2008, at the Ramsey Baptist Church in Montrose, S.D. Interment followed in Ramsey Cemetery, Montrose, S.D.
