Joyce Irene Menego, 82, the daughter of Vardie "Berk" and Clara Alvina (Young) Henderson was born on Aug. 4, 1927, in Blencoe, Iowa, and passed from this life on Saturday evening, Dec. 13, 2008, at the Cedar County Memorial Hospital, in El Dorado Springs, Mo.

Joyce, who was reared by her aunt and uncle Ed and Bessie Henderson, moved to the Schell City area, at age 3 and attended Flat Rock School. After school she married James Lester Davis and to their union seven children were born. She later married George Joseph Menego and together they had one son. Joyce lived in the Schell City/Rich Hill area most of her life. She was baptized as a young adult and was of the Baptist faith. Her hobbies included: working puzzle books, gin rummy, but at the top of her list was her dog Toby.

Survivors include: her husband George Menego, of the home in Walker; three sons, Jack Davis, of the state of Arkansas, Tommy Menego and his wife Michelle, of Rich Hill, and Danny Menego and his wife Anne, of Cassville, Mo.; five daughters, Margie Shropshire and her husband Gary, of Schell City, Jeanette Roberts and her husband Larry, of Schell City, Shirley Foster, of Rich Hill, Mary Brashears, of Henderson, and her youngest daughter Edith; twenty-six grandchildren; thirty-two great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and other relatives and many friends. Of special mention is Joyce's cousin and his wife, Willard an Laverne Henderson, whom Joyce remained close to her all her life. Joyce was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband; four brothers; two sisters; three grandchildren; one great-granddaugther; and one son, James Robert Davis, who passed away in 1993.

Services for Joyce Irene Menego will be held at 11 a.m., today, Dec. 17, at Lewis Hoagland Funeral Home, in Schell City, with bro. Mike McKinney officiating. Pallbearers will be Tommy Menego, Danny Menego, Gary Shropshire, Larry Roberts, and Don Richter. Interment will be at the Green Lawn Cemetery, in Schell City. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Lewis-Hoagland Funeral Home in Schell City. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Ashli O'Dell Scholarship Fund.
