Leroy Zehr, 75, Nevada, passed away on Friday, Jan. 9, 2009, at his home in Nevada following a lengthy illness. He was born March 9, 1933, in Neosho, Mo., to Raymond Eugene Zehr and Emma Lee Tuggle Zehr. He married Shirley A. Perry on Dec. 3, 1955, in North Kansas City, Mo., and she survives of the home.

Leroy grew up in Pittsburg, Kan., and attended high school there. He served in the United States Army from 1953-1955 in Korea during the Korean War. Following the service, he lived in Kansas City, Mo., and worked for the Santa Fe Railroad for a number of years. Then he came to Horton, Mo., in 1960 and operated the service station in Horton until the mid 1970s. Leroy has lived in Nevada for the past year and two months. He was a member of the Horton Methodist Church.

Survivors, in addition to his wife Shirley, include one son, Randy and his wife Nancy, Olathe, Kan.; three grandchildren, Tiffany Zehr, Travis Zehr, and Tyler Zehr, all of Olathe, Kan.; five sisters, Ethel Graves, North Kansas City, Mo., Ruth Menghini, Girard, Kan., Lorene Hermon, Clovis, Calif, Ella Marie Heflin, Olathe, Kan., and Florene Marquis, Silver City, N.M. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Raymond Zehr Jr. and Harold Zehr.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m., on Monday, Jan. 12, at Balltown Cemetery, Horton, Mo., with pastor Connie Locke officiating. Friends may call now and until 10 a.m., on Monday at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada.

Memorials may be given to the Heartland Hospice, Butler, Mo., in care of Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada.
