George Andrew Gilmore, 85, Adrian, Mo., formerly of Milo, Mo., passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2009, at St. Joseph Medical Center, Kansas City, Mo., following a sudden illness. He was born March 26, 1923, in Milo, to Reuben Andrew Gilmore and Harriet Marie Fenton Gilmore. He married Mary L. Wells on June 9, 1964, in Milo, and she survives of the home in Adrian.

George was born and raised in Milo and graduated from Nevada High School in 1942. He served in the U.S. Navy for 20 years during World War II, Vietnam and Korea from 1943-1965. He and his three brothers, Roy, Delmar and Harold served on the U.S.S. Princeton Aircraft Carrier together. George lived and worked in Joplin from 1965-1977 when he moved to Adrian where he worked for P & M Coal until his retirement in 1985. Following his retirement, he and Mary spent their winters in Arizona and California. He was a lifetime member of the Butler D.A.V. Chapter 67.

In addition to his wife Mary, survivors include three children, Misty Dawn Gilmore, Clinton, Mo., Della Mae Underwood, Ellington, Mo., and Everette Ogle, Archie, Mo.; five grandchildren, Felicia Love, Clinton, Mo., Roy Love, Clinton, Mo., Kim Whitesell, Lockwood, Mo., Amber Jenkins, Willard, Mo., and Tara Sue Underwood, St. Louis, Mo.; five great-grandchildren, Eain McKinney, Tearstin Ogle, Tristen Patterson, Keisha Jenkins, and Dakota Patterson; three brothers, Delmar Gilmore, Milo, Harold Gilmore and Dean Gilmore, both of Nevada; three sisters, Ruby Cartwright, Nevada, Ruth Langston, Blanchard, Idaho, and Della Price, Nevada; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by one brother, Roy Gilmore.

The family will receive friends from 10-11 a.m., on Saturday morning, Jan. 31, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, and will close with Military Rites at 11 a.m.
