Larry Schmidt, 68, Nevada, was taken to be with his Lord Sunday, Feb. 8, 2009, at Moore-Few Care Center in Nevada. Larry was born in Hosmer, S.D., to Ludwig Leopold Schmidt and Clara Lacher Schmidt on June 28, 1940.

Larry attended Hosmer grade school until the eighth grade, at which time the family moved to Igloo, S.D., and Larry went on to attend three years at the Assumption Abbey in Richerton, N.D., returning to Igloo to attend his senior year. He then joined the Navy in 1959. While in the Navy, he met and married Shirley Stewart in 1960. They had four children together, making their home in the Tulsa, Okla., area after various moves due to his job, which was in management of building products warehouses. In 2000, he married Jeanie Wagner in Albuquerque, N.M. From this marriage he gained three stepchildren. After retiring he made his home in Nevada. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, traveling, watching sports, and spending time with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife Jeanie of Nevada; sons, Mark Schmidt and his wife Anne, Edmond, Okla., Marty Schmidt and his wife Dalyn, Deerfield, Mo.; daughters, Mary Rajewski and her husband Norman, Cheney, Kan., Susan Rosero and her husband Danny, Raleigh, N.C.; stepchildren, Shannon Mets and his wife Dottie, Casper, Wyo., Corrina Spears, Nevada, LaVonna Walton, Buffalo Gap, S.D.; 10 grandchildren and four step-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his mother and father; one brother; two sisters, and one grandson.

Rosary will be held on Saturday, Feb. 14, at 9:30 a.m., at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Nevada, followed by a Memorial Service at 10 a.m., with the Rev. Justin Hoye officiating.
