Margaret A. "Peg" Byler

Margaret A. "Peg" Byler, age 80, of Fredericktown, died Friday Feb. 13, 2009, at the Knox Community Hospital in Mount Vernon. Peg was born Nov. 5, 1928, in Amherst, Ohio, to Frank and Anna (Davie) Ward and was a graduate of Amherst High School where she served as "Flag Bearer" for the marching band. On May 5, 1951, she married Robert Byler, an Ohio State Highway Patrolman. They lived in Amherst, Massillon, Monroeville, Fremont, Bellevue and Canfield before moving to Fredericktown in 1969.

Peg was active in Fredericktown life, working as secretary for the Fredericktown United Methodist Church, The Knox County Citizen, and for 18 years as deputy clerk for the village of Fredericktown. She was past president of the Fredericktown Band Boosters and was a member of the West Side Club, Readers Review and the Fredericktown United Methodist Church.

Surviving are her sons and daughters-in-law Dennis Byler of Columbus, Kan., Thomas (Janet) Byler, of Fort Scott, and William (Arlene) Byler, of Fredericktown; her granddaughters Maia (Chris) Day, Ania Preuss, Kimberly (Jared) Leek and Megan Byler; her great-granddaughter Ella Day; and her brother Gordon (Connie) Ward, of Sylvania. Besides her parents, her husband Robert Byler preceded Peg in death.

Friends may call on Sunday from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m., and Monday from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m., at the Snyder Funeral Home in Fredericktown, where funeral services will follow Monday at 2 p.m. Burial will follow at Forest Cemetery in Fredericktown.
