Gerald W. Peterson, 89, of Oskaloosa, Mo., died at 11:50 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 19, 2009, at Mt. Carmel Regional Medical Center, in Pittsburg, Kan.

Mr. Peterson was born July 13, 1919, at Farlington, Kan., the son of Loyd and Eva Garrett Peterson. Gerald was a retired farmer and road grader operator. He was reared in Garland and attended Garland schools. He operated the Peterson Grocery, in Oskaloosa, Mo., and was the road grader operator for Barton City, Leroy Township and Ozark Township, Mo. Gerald married Muriel Richmond on Feb. 26, 1944, at Lamar, Mo. Mrs. Peterson preceded him in death June 6, 2005.

Survivors include: three sons, Jerry Peterson and his wife Georgann, of Oskaloosa, Mo., Mike Peterson and his wife Lamona, of Oskaloosa, Mo., and Danny Peterson and his wife Ronda, of Fort Scott; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Berniece Thomas, and Alice Ricketts, and one brother, Loyd Peterson.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, Feb. 24, at Beden Funeral Home, in Arma, with the Rev. Bob Dickey officiating. Burial will be at Shiloh Cemetery, in Oskaloosa. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m., on Monday, at the Bedene Chapel, at Arma where friends may call after 11 a.m., Monday.
