Della Mae Lucas, age 88, a former resident of Mapleton, Kan., and more recently of El Reno, Okla., died Wednesday, Aug. 26, 2009, at her home in El Reno. She was born April 11, 1921, at Blue Mound, Kan. Della was a farmer and insurance agent. She moved to El Reno, Okla., from Mapleton, Kan., 24 years ago. She was a member of the First Christian Church where she served as treasurer of her Sunday school class. She was also a volunteer for Mobile Meals and enjoyed bowling with the Senior Citizens League.

Survivors include two sons, Billy Floyd Lucas and wife, Jean, Niceville, Fla., and James Allen Lucas and wife, Paula, Broomfield, Colo.; a daughter, Marilyn Houston and husband, Floyd Steve Pendergraft, El Reno, Okla.; seven grandchildren, John Lucas and wife, Kelly, Phillip Lucas and wife, Gerry, Kara Lucas, Michelle Brigge, Stephanie Gatz, Scott Schmidt and wife, Shawna, and Holly Schmidt; nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents, Floyd Thornton and Della Pauline (Laird) Spillman; her husband, Russell Clarence Lucas and brothers, Russell Spillman, Ray Spillman, Roy Spillman, Lloyd Spillman, and an infant brother, Clifford Spillman.

The Rev. Reed Hartford will conduct graveside services at 2 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 30, at the Mapleton Cemetery. Services are under the direction of the Cheney Witt Memorial Chapel, 201 S. Main, Fort Scott.
